Although kits of the vehicle have been produced in vinyl and resin, it wasn’t until 2011 that Fujimi produced one in injection-molded plastic. There is a lot to tell about this project. In essence, it was a huge sculpture job centred around a very well known and much loved 150-year-old oak tree at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria. VAST numbers of copyrighted books appear to have been memorised by ChatGPT and its successor GPT-4, posing questions about the legality of how these large language models (LLMs) are created. What we have here is one of the nicest 1/144 scale kits to ever grace a modeler’s bench. I don’t often dabble in this scale. However, after working on a few other 1/144 scale models, I decided to see what I could do with Revell’s little gem of a Grumman E-2C Hawkeye. I also like the newer scimitar 8-blade propellers from Retro Wings (No. Rw44001), so I added those and aftermarket markings from Starfighter Decals. This has largely been credited to the use of bed nets, insecticides and efficient diagnoses and treatments for the parasitic condition. But with climate change creating new breeding grounds for malaria-carrying mosquitoes and the roll-out of an effective vaccine being too expensive for many countries, malaria elimination worldwide isn’t straightforward. An estimated 247 million cases and 619,000 deaths from malaria occurred in 2021, of which at least 95 per cent were in Africa, where children under 5 are the most at risk. Intel’s 11th-gen Rocket Lake chip won’t hit shelves until the end of March, but an unexpectedly early review of a retail Core i7-11700K labels the chip as power-hungry and unable to surpass AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X in many tests. No artificial signals have yet been detected. The failure of SETI is called “The Great Silence”, but despite this, many scientists are confident that intelligent aliens exist. There are thought to be at least 10 billion habitable worlds in our galaxy, and billions of years have passed in which any life on them could have developed intelligence and technology. METI, or messaging extraterrestrial intelligence, has been less common. It involves talking rather than listening. To some, it is a controversial activity. Let’s face it, using acrylic paints and finishing products — like weathering powders and washes — is different from using enamels, oil paints, or lacquers. You can produce similar effects, but the processes and methods vary slightly. However, once you have them down, you can use water-based acrylics on anything, from armor to sci-fi models and everything between. In 2008, I won the Gunpla World Championships using only acrylics and went on to win multiple other awards afterward. Over the course of 16 episodes, members of the Model Railroader and Model Railroader Video Plus staffs worked on Chuck Sable’s HO scale Milwaukee & Northwestern Wisconsin Division model railroad as part of the “Rehab my Railroad” series.
